What’s with all these games that have “Royale” in the title?! Anyways, I rarely find myself with downtime but I do like to distract myself here and there by checking out the latest and sometimes not-so-greatest Freemium titles on the iOS (sometimes I come across a great one though!). This time around I slip on my ninja slippers and check out Ninja Royale.

When it comes down to quickly describing Ninja Royale, I’m somewhat at a loss. You’re not building or anything of that nature, instead you’re leveling up your ninja and exploring levels. How the levels are played out is that you tap the “Go” button and your ninja will run through a section of the level. Repeat this one-tap riveting experience until you reach the end of the level or until your character runs out of energy. When your character recovers you can spend some real cash and peck at that “Go”button some more! Or better yet take a dollar and let the wind blow it away and try and chase it down the street–that will be much more fun.

Each level is bursting at the seams with adrenaline (yes this is as sarcastic as can be) and you’ll sometimes find something…or nothing, and sometimes treasure. Lots of “sometimes” but never did I say sometimes I had fun.  If the “sometimes” happens to be an enemy you’ll battle off on a rather boring reflex game that tests your tap-swiping reflexes. Sadly this is not very well done and I really didn’t care if I came across it. “Sometimes” you’ll run into another player’s avatar…but I have a rather good hunch that every player I ran into is a robot to make the game feel more populated. Alltimes I wish that I never noticed Ninja Royale.

The Bottom Line: 5/10 (Mediocre)

While Ninja Royale completely missed the fun mark with me, it’s technically not a bad game. So if you’re looking for something that’s not a town-building sim and something that a comatose patient might have some fun playing…‘meh maybe? If I didn’t sell you right then and there than trust me and just skip this one.
