I’m sure that I’m not alone here when I say that my iPhone has replaced my camera for everyday situations. It’s handy, convenient, and overall does a good job. However Apple’s camera app has always been lacking in features but fortunately apps such as PowerCam step in and give us the options that we want.
If you’ve tried out other camera apps some of the features found in PowerCam won’t surprise you. There’s face detection, grids, zoom in/out, panoramic shots, as well as a few other options such as easily sharing your photos through social outlets. Don’t get me wrong here, it’s great to have another camera app that includes these features but there’s a particular reason why you should check out this one.
Filters and effects. My goodness when I say there’s a lot here, I surely mean there’s a lot! I was flicking thru the various effects (which happen in real time by the way). More flicking—and yet there’s still more effects to cycle thru. Maybe even more surprising is that most of them look great and add a nice stylized flair to any shot (check out the bottle of ketchup in the image). After spending time with PowerCam it’s easy to say that it includes the most effects that I’ve come across in an iOS app and once again I will say that most are rather cool.
While I could ramble off each and every effect and filter, I know that no one has the attention span to read them all (including myself) so I’m going to highlight a couple that tickled my fancy (sometimes I have no idea why things pop in my head like that). Using color splash allows you to easily select any color in the picture in real time and have the rest of the image become black and white. Then there’s tilt shift that allows you to manipulate scenery around an object to have it appear miniaturized. While these two may be the highlight, there’s an overall abundance of goodness that will ensure that PowerCam stays on my iPhone.
The Bottom Line: 9/10 (Super!)
If you’re either trying to enhance your photos or want something fun and easy to play with, we highly recommend that you try it out. Oh and it’s free on top of everything else.
