Lately we’ve been reviewing so many more cat games than we have in the past. This time around we take a look at The CATch! where you play as an obese cat in an endless runner…wait this sounds all to familiar…
While I can’t help but make the comparison of a matching fat-cat endless runner theme with DreamCat, the two play completely different. You’ll tilt your iPhone/iPad back and forth to navigate your fat cat from side to side to avoid obstacles as well as finger swipes to activate leaps and dives (if you’ve played Temple Run than this will sound familiar). However, there’s one cool new feature that I have not seen in any other endless runner as of yet and that’s the inclusion of balance beams. Now, you’ll have to carefully tilt your iPhone back and forth to keep balance. If not you’ll fall off…cats are clumsy after all.
While the inclusion of the balance beam is a big thumbs up in my book, the collision detection is another issue. More times than I can count my cat would run into an obstacle that my cat was clearly free of. This alone is The CATch!’s biggest foe (no not a woman with a broom nor the crows).
The one thing that I barely touched on is the theme but now is the time to say how adorable The CATch! is. The world surrounding you is vibrant and colorful and looks like it could have been taken straight from a saturday morning cartoon. The hazards are just as cute and cartoony: including an old woman with a broom, dive bombing crows, and of course dogs. To top this off is the amusing animation of the cat moving around the world. I love watching the cat leap off walls to take a turn. Silly. The CATch! may have a few issues but, the adorableness helps make up for them.
The Bottom Line: 7.5/10 (Good)
While The CATch! may not be perfect, it still brings one of the better Temple Run-like games that we’ve recently played.
The Bottom Line…for cat lovers:
If you’re one to like cat games, The CATch! smokes all of its kitty competition.
