The AppStore knows what people love: ninjas, kittens, robots….it’s the first time that I’ve noticed that all of the above mentioned is incorporated into one game–Ninja Kittens – Cannons VS Robots!

You’ve gotta love the quirky mashup! Ninja Kittens – Cannons VS Robots meshes together more than an absurd theme and goes the next step by crossing a cannon-shooter with tower defense. You’re in charge of a cannon (or cannons) and need to aim your shots to destroy the robots that are coming out of portal(s) and trying to attack the ninja kitten (this is strangely enough your “Tower”). Although your kitten is a great ninja that can fend off the robots it suffers damage with every encounter. If enough robots attack your kitten you will fail that stage so make sure that your shots are aimed properly so they count!

The combination of cannon shooter elements with tower-defense elements works well…but there’s a “but” to this statement. That is the overall challenge of each level and pacing. About half of the game (a total of 45 levels) is beyond easy and offers no challenge whatsoever and this is the fault of level design. Sure sooner or later the robots will be coming out of multiple portals on every-which side of your ninja kitten but this is never a threat. The majority of the time I placed the angle of the shot to land either in front of or behind the cat and waited for the robots to come slowly walking up to the kitten. When they got close I shot ‘em and continued doing this with nary the necessity to change the trajectory of the shots. If the robots don’t kill you (and they most likely won’t), surely the slow pacing of each level will defeat the desire to move on. This is too bad since there’s cool features including shooting a cannon at a cannon to load it as well as a variety of ammo including stun shots and homing shots.

The Bottom Line: 5/10 (Mediocre)

Ninja Kittens-Cannons VS Robots has a great quirky appeal but falls short in the gaming department.
