Apocalypse Knights places you as a knight with the task of taking back the lands infested with “Darkness”. In short what this really means is that you’re a badass zombie-slaying knight in a land that meshes together 21st century apocalyptic environments with a twist of fantasy.
Apocalypse Knights, in part, plays like an action genre that slightly resembles Dungeon Hunter and part Dual-Stick Shooters where you’ll battle continuous waves of enemies (this does not mean that this is a dual stick shooter). Even though this type of gameplay isn’t a novelty to us it is the first time that one followed a inclining path. Hmmm this is pretty good. Ah, that’s cool. You’ve got to be kidding me! Wow I wonder what’s coming next!
In other words, it managed to do what very few action games have done in the past. Continue to amaze me the further I progressed. First I was sold on the combat (dealing with the animation delay of attacks does take a little while to get accustomed to), then it was the “Special Attack” that changes depending on your sword, multitude of upgradeable weapons to even…wait for it…Mounting a freaking horse! You heard me right…you can fight on the back of a horse. Does it get any sweeter than this? I think not, oh wait it does! Everything from your armor, weapons, to your horse is upgradable!
While I piled up a bunch of awesomeness in one paragraph, I could easily go on. So last thing I’ll talk about are the enemies. Not surprisingly the Ai is not very bright…heck my 6 year old nephew who’s as sharp as a marble (heck I’m seeing toddlers running circles around him..sorry bra…I mean “He is so smart…”) could even manage to outsmart it. However, the variety of enemies and inclusion of Boss battles makes this be easy to overlook.
The Bottom Line: 9/10 (Super!)
Rarely do we come across a freemium game that is packed with that much fun. If you’re an action junkie this is a no-brainer addition to your iOS game collection.
