Ever since I was introduced to Wallace and Gromit I fell in love with anything and everything Aardman (well not so much with Flushed Away). So even if Aardman’s quirky British humor is not your thing, the goofy characteristics of Aardman and life-like stop-motion animation will surely win your heart. We’ve seen Aardman games in the past and some have even made it over to the iPhone such as Shaun the Sheep in Home Sheep Home (an adorable physics-puzzler). Now comes Shaun’s newest game, Shaun the Sheep-Fleece Lighting.
Unlike Shaun’s other outings on the iPhone, Shaun the Sheep-Fleece Lighting features Shaun in a top-down racer. In each race you’ll take control of Shaun, avoid all the hazards that take place in farm-ish territories while trying to best the time of the annoying pigs trying to outrun Shaun.
Each course takes Shaun racing through different environments that build in complexity. Soon you’ll be running through trees, other barn animals and even aiming jumps off of trampolines and ramps to land on rooftops (hmmm Parkour sheep sim?) to avoid other obstacles. Although the levels do tend to feel similar to one another after awhile, the crazy level layouts kept me entertained from beginning to end.
If you’re left wanting more races (there’s a good chunk of ‘em), Shaun the Sheep- Fleece also includes an intuitive mode that gives you the tools to create your own levels. This mode alone makes the price tag worth it.
The Bottom Line: 9/10
Shaun the Sheep-Fleece is as addictive as it is cute. With the cute level designs and fantastic controls (there’s a few different options to fit your needs) you’ve got yourself a winning racer for all ages.
