The AppStore releases good Tower Defense games month after month. This month Chillingo has released a sequel, iBomber Defense Pacific, that surpasses the original iBomber Defense.
If you’ve played iBomber Defense (which still holds up well today) or the oh-so many other Tower Defense games out there then you know exactly what to expect. You’ll need to place a variety of turrets in order to defend yourself against the onslaught of approaching enemies. Each turret is upgradable and each weapon works best against a particular enemy. Of course if the enemy slips away too many times you will loose. Sounds familiar right?
Ah, but not to worry, iBomber Defense Pacific includes a chunk of features that keeps it fresh. The rewind feature that was in iBomber Defense as well as the crafty ranking up system that allows you to purchase upgrades are all back. And now there’s even more additional features that makes iBomber Defense Pacific one of the best Tower Dense game to hit the iOS. Now each turret can be dug into place which narrows your shooting diameter but significantly increases the distance. Best of all is that you can continuously alter the direction of the turret which gives you a much more hands-on experience.
On top of all this are side missions which vary from stage to stage that have you either saving or destroying something from the enemy. This not only increases the intensity of each level, but accomplishing each side mission allows you to become more powerful by having you rank up faster.
Lastly, the path of the AI is unlike anything that I’ve seen. iBomber Defense Pacific now has enemies appear off the beaten path whose only purpose is to destroy your defense. This element forces you to be more alert and aware of everything on the screen rather than just the determined path(s).
The Bottom Line: 8.5
iBomber Defense Pacific is a well polished Tower Defense game.
