Racers, platformers, shooters, you name it. There was at least a little something for everyone this past Spring. Spring is now over and we’re already anticipating the new up-coming Summer games. Before we move on we must appreciate and recognize the games that kept us entertained while it was damp and cold outside. Every month it gets tougher and tougher to be chosen as the best of the best and what game really offers the most satisfying gaming experience.
Storm in a Teacup
We never imagined that Storm in a Teacup would win us over this much, don’t get us wrong, we knew it would be good, but not this good. The level design is laid out in a way where you can either enjoy small snippets at a time by quickly flying past these remarkable beautiful and colourful worlds to spending a chunk of time collecting everything. If you choose to explore the worlds you will not only receive a deeper experience by finding all the collectibles but also experience more of the world that it offers. Storm in a Teacup’s world has more character in its stuck-out tea sippin’ pinky then some of the games that we play on the Mac App Store. Even if you’re not sold on the creative theme or the whimsical music score, then you can’t not love the easy to grasp controls. We love controls that bring in the enjoyment for the most casual gamers while still not insulting the more seasoned ones. Although it’s rather short and not the most challenging, it still managed to win our hearts over at App Store Arcade.
Motorbike
Motorbike was way ahead of the pack in first place for most of May, but–as the world turns so does the gamers scores and Storm in a Teacup edged it out. Nevertheless, Motorbike is a astonishing physics racer with a puzzle-like quality. Figuring out how to get over the terrain takes skill and logic that we just don’t see that often in games today. We can’t ignore the largest reason why Motorbike is so addictive and that’s its Level Creator and the online community. Designing your own levels is beyond easy and gives you all the tools to build your very own fantasy dream course. Of course this wouldn’t be as great if you couldn’t share these tracks–which you can. Sharing tracks and playing fellow gamers ups the funability.
Uber Indie Game of The Month
Getting your game noticed is a tremendously hard task, especially when your game is developed by a very small group, sometimes only one person. These games sometimes may not have the same polish to compete with the larger games, or not have the finances for advertisements, but still offer a great playing experience. We decided to create a new monthly award to recognize these smaller games.
Last month we couldn’t choose one winner for out Uber Indie award and and decided to call it tie. Well …we did it again! Sometimes there’s just not a clear choice, these two titles are like comparing apples and oranges…well I like apples better than oranges, especially with peanut butter, anyways these two are completely different games with one thing in common, they both offer super-duper fun times! -man I’m a dork, and not the cool kind either.
Laser Dolphin
If you’re not into ‘A’ or even ‘B’ movies and all your watch are your friends homemade movies then you will love the outrageously cheesy plot of Laser Dolphin. Beyond the imaginative campy theme is one of the best action Indie games that we have put our hands on. How the game handles creates a very easy and addictive experience that will have you blasting turtles and seagulls for eons. If blasting isn’t enough, there’s a couple other modes including a race mode that could easily stand alone, but instead you have it all in one nifty Laser Dolphin package.
D-Capitatrix
Ahh, Gamesmold, our regular readers have to be familiar with this developer by now. They have released two games in the Mac App Store while the first one was decent, it was their second game Cart Cow that really caught our attention and earned last month’s Uber Indie award. Now with the release of D-Capitatrix we can see that Gamesmold is no one-trick pony. The design and thought that went into each stage is some of the best that we have seen in any indie game and can hold its own with any of the power-house main-stream games that we see today.

The only one I played was Teacup. I thought it was good.
