Remember the mazes on the back of cereal boxes that can be solved in 2 seconds while drunk? Those free mazes offer a more enjoyable experience than Fugu Maze. It hurts me to say this because if the dev’s actually spent the time to develop it, they could have corned the 3d maze market on the Mac App Store…it might be the only one out there right now…I guess not much cornering.
The concept is very simple, each brand new game generates a random 3D maze that you navigate with a flashlight. I can’t believe it, I normally touch upon important things like game descriptions but somehow this sentence covered everything and is longer then the description of the game…twice as long now!
Walking around with your flashlight is problematic with your first turn, you turn with the mouse which whips your character around( the dev’s must ‘whip their hair like that’–thanks pandora for getting that in my head) causing you to loose orientation. Since you’re in a maze it would be somewhat helpful if you could make a small turn. This wouldn’t be as much of a problem if each maze didn’t have the same texture for everything. Yes everything–walls, floors, and ceiling. The mouse and the textures are so atrociously done that it’s almost unplayable.
Lastly give us some options! First thing I wanted to do was change the mouse. Second was I wanted to be able to change the size of the maps, but we have nothing! Here’s an idea…add bread crumbs or something. Seriously anything! So as it stands, there are no options and the game just sucks.
Shame on you dev’s for charging for this tech demo, and it’s a lousy one at that.
The Bottom Line:
Today the novelty of walking in 3D has worn off. This might have been cool 20 years ago. Avoid at all costs.
